Welcome!
I am an artist living in the beautiful state of Maine. I have spent my entire life with an innate love and curiosity for the outdoors. My work blends this love for the natural beauty of the world around us with a love of light, color, and abstract form.
I have always loved creating in all its forms. My childhood bedroom walls and window screens were my first canvases. When I was about eight years old, I used the mason’s left over cement and created a stunning abstract mural on the brick wall of my parent’s new addition (much to their dismay). However, it was the beginning of what would become my career of giving life to any canvas in my possession. Soon, my parents began feeding me a steady stream of paint by number kits, auto and military models, craft projects, or anything I could get my hands on to build. That kept me happy and out of trouble in the house. Otherwise, I was out in the woods playing, fishing, and exploring the many vessels of nature in my domain. As I grew older, that love of exploring and wandering in nature stayed with me wherever I went - from my small childhood town in Connecticut to the bustling city of Manhattan, to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, to wilderness northern Maine, I always found myself coming back to nature.
When I paint, I try to convey the excitement of what I experience in nature. I set out to create an image that both transports the viewers into the subject, as well as offers room for personal interpretation of the natural world. Everyone experiences and sees nature differently. My goal is to use paint to translate that feeling of awe and excitement that permeates me when I am walking in the woods, feeling the wind on my face, and smelling those earthy smells. It is capturing nature’s detail within its abstract, its color within its light, and its beauty in simplicity that I try to convey to the viewer.
I graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design from Rochester Institute of Technology and began my career in New York City as a graphic designer and illustrator. After about five years, missing easy access to my favorite outdoor pursuits, I moved out to Colorado. I lived and worked in the Denver/Boulder area for 10 years, spending much of my time in the mountains hiking and backpacking, fishing, drawing, and painting. Upon starting our family of four, my wife and I moved to Gorham, Maine - where we have been for the last 21 years enjoying both the mountains and ocean.
I do everything from small 6x6 canvases of my favorite landscape scenes, to large commissioned pieces varying in content. Check out the rest of my site to see more of my work!
